Research by
Karen Ivey Herndon
I started working on my family history in 2014 to record my nearest living relatives, and it has turned into an increasingly avid curiosity to find out more about my 4th great-grandfather, Ephraim Ivey, to looking for distantly related cousins.
My initial research started by piggybacking off the research from a couple of my Ivey cousins on ancestry.com. I have now expanded to comparing data through FamilySearch.org and Wikitree.com. My ultimate goal is to compile a self-printed book to share with my cousins at our Annual Ivey Family Reunion usually held in mid-to-late September. This website is to provide the same information to our relatives that are not able to attend the reunion.
I try to include sources when available, if a source is not attributed, it is more than likely hearsay. I have also tried to "privatize" living person's data.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would like to add/edit any information (please quote any sources you may have for your information). My email address is listed below (NOTE: you must remove the # characters from the address before you send the email).

Adam Ivey and the relationship to Ephraim Ivey
I have chosen to begin my research starting with Ephraim Ivey, my 4th great-grandfather and his descendants. It is my opinion that the research regarding his parentage/lineage is flawed because of too many discrepancies in previous research regarding all the Adam Ivey's so named during that time period and do not wish to perpetuate what cannot be sourced.
For your reading pleasure, you can find these opinions on the subject of Adam Ivey at the following links:
- Bob's Genealogy Filing Cabinet by Robert Baird, dated 2007
- Ivey-Ivie-Ivy Family Research by Jerry L. Ivey, website is copyrighted 2012, but cannot tell when a last update was made
- Descendants of Adam Ivey by F. Steve Ivey, now deceased (requires Acrobat Reader to view the file), undated
- The Ivey Family in the United States by George Franks Ivey (requires Acrobat Reader to view the file), published 1941
I do not make any speculation as to when my particular Ivey line immigrated to the Colonies. I could speculate that Ephraim Ivey's parents MAY have been Adam Ivey & Mary Peebles. It is documented that he had two brothers, Samson/Sampson Ivey and Peebles Ivey. This is a theory that I have chosen to pursue at a much later date.
