Carrie Smith GREENE (known as Nanny to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) was born on 11 Sep 1892 in Devereux, Hancock, Georgia as the second child of Joseph Edward GREENE and Sarah Florence (Evergreen?) "Flossie or Florie" SMITH. She had five siblings, namely: Benjamin Carlton "Bennie", Sarah Florence "Sallie", Willie Authur, Mamie Ella, and Rufus Edward "Buddy" Sr.

Also living in the household are 4 of her siblings Carlton, Florence, Willie, and Mamie. The record states she has attended school and can read and write. Her father is listed as a farmer.
Her grandparents, Joseph Whitfield GREENE and Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" WATTS were living nearby along with her uncle, Julian M GREENE. Also living nearby is her uncle, Richard Lemuel GREENE and aunt, Sarah Anne Elizabeth"Lizzie" UNDEWOOD, and her cousins, Della Mae GREENE and Jesse Thomas GREENE. Della and Carrie were about the same age and very close. They visited each other often in later years.

At the age of 26, Carrie Inez was counted in the census in 1920 in Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia. Living with her husband, Osmar Inez, and 4 of their children: Julian Inez, Edna Inez, Malcom Inez, and William Inez. The census record states Osmer owned his own home, free of mortgage, and was a general farmer.

Carrie Ivey was counted in the census in 1930 in Meriwether, Baldwin, Georgia. At 37 years old, married to 48 year old Osm* Ivey. Eleven of their children are living in the household (Julian, Edner, Malcom, William, James, Marry, O E, Drucilla, Robert, Joe, and "Living"). Osmer is recorded as a general farmer, and not a veteran of US Military or Naval forces.

Osmer was 57 years old and Carrie was 46.
Their oldest son, Julian, lived next door with his wife, Maude.

Carrie died on 18 Jan 1983 in Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia at the Oconee Regional Medical Center, at the age of 90. She was buried on 20 Jan 1983 in Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville, Baldwin, Georgia.
OBITUARY
Mrs. Carrie Green Ivey, 90, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today in Northside Baptist Church.Burial will be in Memory Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Luke Moncrief and the Rev. Ebb Kilpatrick will officiate.Mrs. Ivey, a native of Hancock County, had lived in Milledgeville for several years. She was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church in Milledgeville.Survivors include six sons, Malcolm Ivey,Sr., Bill Ivey, James R. "Tiny" Ivey, Robert L. Ivey and O.E. Ivey all of Milledgeville, and Joseph Ivey of Bonaire; five daughters, Mrs. Edna Harris, Mrs. Drucilla Weaver, Mrs. Cofield and Mrs. Towns, all of Milledgeville, and Mrs. Mary Henry of Dublin; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.Moore's Funeral Home of Milledgeville has charge of arrangements.

This is a photo of the Ivey family homeplace where Osmer & Carrie (Papa/Pop & Nanny) lived. All of the grandchildren have fond memories of visiting them there and swinging in the wooden bench swing on the front porch, hearing the screen door squeak when it opened and closed. The homeplace was torn down a long time ago, but it will never be forgotten.
